Lily: Seeing Seen & Angel Walk/Campfire Circle, Camp Myrtlewood (Day 8)

I woke up in the field, cocooned in my blankets. to wake up call singing, I peek over and wave to friends across the field. Then head to my cabin to put away my stuff and brush my teeth. Breakfast was pancakes (they were so fucking good omg I love camp) I’m still recovering from being sick, so I had a friend get food for me, I sat on the stage to eat, originally sitting alone but friends head over to sit with me.

I run back to my cabin to get a skirt on before morning meeting (it’s skirt day!)

At morning meeting Julian asks all the sick people if we wanted to sit together (there’s a lot of us o_o) we all say cough instead of clapping. today the hug number was 5 good hugs, 4 ok hugs, and 2 bad hugs.

I had lunch under the climbing tree with Jack M, Kaneya, and Julian, it was nice, we laughed, and talked, and Jack played music on his cassette player.

After I decided I REALLY wanted to swim so I ran around camp asking if anyone wanted to, at first I got a lot of no’s, but eventually we got enough people. So me, Xane, Lucy, Marcus, Jason, Aidant, and Phaedrus, headed down to the creek. It was super cold, but I loved it, Lucy and Jason didn’t go in. Phaedrus stood in the water shaking. we played creek seat (it’s hot seat but in the creek) and then took a group shower in our bathing suits in dog wood.

Phaedrus, Lucy, and I decided to lay in the hammock, we were cold so I got my Josh Hutcherson blanket, Lucy read a book and Phaedrus and I laid there. Eventually, in iconic camp spirit, a group of friends ends up around the hummock, we all joke around till dinner.

At check in, i walked through the line with my blanket wrapped around me, then I leaned on a log Aiden H was sitting on, and talked with friends till evening meeting.

Later that night was the Angel walk, which is my favourite activity at camp. I was worried before because I wasn’t sure I would be able to participate because I’m sick, but Aubrey announced at the meeting that she talked to momma bear and she green lit everyone to come. I felt a lot better after that.

The angel walk is always awesome, but this year was the best. It felt like what everyone said was exactly what I needed to hear. I felt seen. I cried a lot. I got lots of hugs. it was good.

Me and Aubrey talked after, about how while you’re walking through, it feels like every single thing someone says is the most important thing you’ll ever hear, but once it’s over, all the words become a jumbled mess of good feelings, I think it’s meant to feel like that though. Aubrey gave me a hug and headed to the kitchen.

I had really yummy cobbler, and ate it while talking to other campers.

Eventually me and some friends headed down to the campfire. Caitlin sang the ballad of Lucy Gray. Andy sang stick season, and I laid down beside the fire, looking up at the stars surrounded by trees, listening to everyone sing.

After, Roxy played the guitar and we all sang along. I walked over to some friends and asked if they wanted to go to bed, so we headed back to the cabins.

It took a very long time for everyone to get their stuff, I wasn’t feeling very good. I wasn’t sure what group I wanted to sleep with, since some people were sleeping at the campfire. But I ended up deciding to sleep in the felid, looking for a spot we found Julian and Aiden H sleeping beside the volleyball net. We put our stuff down and I ended up laying on a big hole (which I thought was very funny). Aiden woke up and we bothered him for a bit before we all fell asleep under the stars.
