My name is Kyson and I am a camper at NBTSC 2025. Today was the second Variety Show and a whole lot more. It was wonderful for me; a genuinely extremely enjoyable experience and something I will never forget. I started today in the morning as all days do. I woke up back in my cabin unlike plenty of other campers who slept outside in the rain and where it was quite damp in the morning. I was stressed about today when I woke up because I was going to be running the creek walk as a workshop and it was incredibly important to me to do that one right. I went outside and had breakfast. The eggs were way too spicy for me because I added to much spicy hot sauce. That made my day much hotter and unable to finish breakfast entirely so when I did my dish I felt a little guilty not finishing my food. But this session I rarely finished my food. So I went off towards the chapel and sat down for morning meeting, before remembering again that it rained yesterday and that thus morning meeting would in fact be taking place in the lodge and not the chapel. So I quickly ran over there in time for morning meeting to begin. Morning meeting was fairly good with plenty of workshops announced. The ones I specifically noticed where of course, the Mixed and Persons of Color talk, UNO which was hosted by a friend, and self defense which was hosted by another friend of mine.
Day Ten though had one special workshop that I was most concerned about and I was called up to speak about the creek walk which is by far my favorite camp event, I went up in the second slot but I knew the creek walk would probably take enough time to fill up more than one slot and I said as much. I said that this would be a 1 hour and thirty minute walk. I did kinda lie because I thought that was an undersell and I was thinking maybe if we went fast we could get it done in 90 minutes. I was very excited to run the creek walk but also dreading it due to the rain. I was worried people wouldn’t show up to it because it would be too cold.
Next up of course was Advisee, which I can’t remember at all from yesterday. But I do remember the questions which were on a scale of one to ten: how introverted are you, and what are your thoughts on the rain given it rained today.
Then was workshop slot one I went to the mixed raced/person of color workshop because, well, I’m a mixed/person of color and we talked a lot about some very complicated topics. I like to think we did quite well navigating them especially given we were taking a rather emotional and personal perspective on them. I won’t do an in depth list of all of the topics we discussed but one of the major ones was absolutely how intentionally hostile some of the worlds designs are for people of non white skin tones.
Next was Superhero time followed by Lunch which was quite good but much less notable then breakfast I think it was rice and tofu but I may be mixing it up with dinner. I quite enjoyed it even if the rice was a tad dry.
Then came Siesta. I expected to use Siesta purely as a rest day and instead we went and wrestled pretty much all of Siesta. I won 2 lost 2 and drew 2; it was quite enjoyable but I was super exhausted by the end of it which really is not the goal of siesta. One may even be able to argue that it is the exact opposite of siesta’s goals especially given what came next the creek walk. It is something I love and yet was also incredibly scared of mostly because I was the one running it and I felt if it wasn’t successful I would feel bad.
So in workshop slot two I went out and waited for people to show up and they did and we went out on the creek walk. We saw all the cool sights down the creek that could be described as coming straight out of a painting but were real. We talked about things like cave diving and nature and medication. It was wonderful in a way that is simply indescribable. A special event every single year at camp and while by the end of the hike I was exhausted and wanted to lay down, it was so utterly special. I took a shower directly after the creek walk.
For the rest of the day I was kinda tired and even missed the talent show but here are some of the highlights of the talent show: Ester did a wonderful performance, Kiaya did some great poetry reading and there was many other wonderful performances. After the talent show most everyone went to sleep. I spent much of the talent show talking to friends near forest dell and getting medicine for some of them from mama bear. All in all it was a good day with many wonderful events and happenings.
