Although it was a rest day, and wake up call wasn’t until 10am, i woke up at 7:30. The unit of body heat keeping me warm while we were sleeping in the field was leaving for breakfast meal prep, and i didn’t see a point in going back to sleep when i was shivering that much. I went to my cabin to drop off my sleeping bag and blanket and then headed to the kitchen to spend my morning chopping various fruits and vegetables and hanging out with Kilam and Elijah. I’m supposed to come in for lunch meal prep around noon, but what else was i gonna do at 8 in the morning. I chopped watermelon, cantaloupe, and scary lettuce. Lettuce of various evil shapes and sizes. After 2 and a half hours of hanging out in the kitchen I got to serve breakfast. I love serving food because I get to say hi to everybody, and by the time I’m getting food the line is completely gone!
Last night I got the privilege of serving cookies after bonding night. My mascara was all smeared around my eyes from crying. It was a silly parallel; looking like I had been crying, while serving everyone cookies and being silly and jolly. Bonding night was different for me this year. There was somebody who I had been very close with all year, but we stopped talking a few months ago and we had been avoiding each other at camp and it was making me very sad. Bonding night was the first time we hugged. when bonding night ended I sat outside with a few people and cried very hard for a couple minutes. Then I needed to break the ice, so I said “alright guys, so who smelled the best” and everybody laughed, and I stopped crying for the most part.
After hanging out in the kitchen for 2 hours I ate breakfast, eggs and cinnamon rolls!! and hung out with my buddies!!
After breakfast was morning meeting. Today is national Duran Duran day (and rice pudding day, but that’s irrelevant) so Aidant led a Duran Duran sing along. It was terrible. Before the hug number, Evan had us make a human pyramid. Then was the hug number was 21. I got at least 21. Then headed off to Advisee.
In Advisee we checked in via unusual musical instruments: kalimba, penny whistle, tongue drum, djembe. Each of us picked an instrument and made a little tune to describe how we feel. The general theme was they all started slow, got fast and high pitched in the middle, and slowed down at the end. Somebody theorized that this is because our days start out slow, then get fast and exciting mid-day, then chill out at night time. after check in everyone was discussing instruments and sound and timbre. I was falling asleep the entire time. Our Advisee meets on the bridge above the creek. It’s surrounded by the greenest trees and ferns you’ve ever seen. and when there’s nobody talking, you can hear the creek flowing underneath you.
Then it was time to do my actual scheduled lunchtime meal prep. I shucked corn for dinner. I was very very sleepy and zoned out the whole time. I was very entranced by the sounds of music and people working and talking. I didn’t stay for my usual extra hour, only an extra 45 minutes, as i was very sleepy and wanted to eat lunch and take a nap. I grabbed a grilled cheese and tomato soup and sat down with Ozzie, Aidant and Phaedrus. Phaedrus tried on my glasses and hit me with the shocking news that when he wears other peoples glasses his vision gets blurry.
After lunch i went outside and sat at a picnic table and yapped. Then i dominated ping pong. After ping pong i went to the creek with Xane, as it was the hottest day yet and I needed to be immersed in cold water. Down at the creek i skipped rocks with Lily, Xane, Maddy, and Kilam. We waded about 30 feet past the entrance and the tiny rocks at the bottom of the creek provided me with the most painful foot massage imaginable. I sat next to Lily on some rocks and we yapped until the dinner bell rang.
Dinner was burrito bowls!! I got food for Lily because he’s sick and not allowed to get food for themself. I sat under the climbing tree and ate lunch with Julian, Lily and Leander. After they were all done eating, I slopped everybody’s plates while they messed around with a soccer ball.
After dinner was evening meeting. it’s Leon’s birthday today and their wish was for the jr. staff to perform a skit for them. And so, Orion acted as the king, and Sully as the court jester, trying to get Orion to giggle and chortle. After multiple failed attempts, sully called Epic onto the stage (honorary jr staff), who suggested Sully break it down, “funky style” as Epic performed some insane dance moves, which led to King Orion bursting with laughter, success!
During the entirety of evening meeting, Aidenh was piling grass on Leander’s leg, and I piled grass on Aidenh’s head and down his shirt. I don’t think he was too displeased.
After evening meeting was the concert, where a handful of people performed music and poetry they had written themselves. My favorite acts were: J’s song about the death penalty, Kennedy’s various songs played with a strum stick, and Christian’s song about different kinds of love. As Christian played their songs, me and Lily laid on Julian and sobbed into his shirt, resulting in some very silly wet marks on either side of his chest.
After the concert i headed to the campfire circle to see if anything cool was happening. There was a group of about 10 people gathered around with one person in the middle: they were playing hotseat! A game where one person gets blasted with question after question for 2 minutes straight. and this was after-hours hotseat, so things were getting crazy.
Then it was sleepy time. I went to my cabin to get my sleeping bag and the items to brush my teeth, etc., brushed my teeth, and then went out into the field where i laid down between Lily and Kilam, with Aident on Kilam’s other side. i couldn’t fall asleep for about 30 minutes because i was filled with unbridled rage, and had to stare at the stars and try to work my feelings into words in my head. i became too sleepy and crashed after a while
