Hannah: Camp Myrtlewood (Day 8, Seeing Seen)

Pulled from a good dream by my alarm at 8:15, I dragged myself out of bed and headed out for a run. I took it easy, enjoying a chill 6 miles on the dirt roads near camp, enjoying views of lots of cows and a couple of pet peacocks.

The kitchen prepared delicious pancakes for brunch thanks to sleep in day, served alongside the usual foods, which was a nice treat.

After morning meeting, we were greeted by another advisee group who came into our group gave us three questions to guess who was hiding inside of a blanket cover. We guessed correctly and had a new guest in our advisee for the day.

During siesta, I hung out on the porch of my cabin (Hemlock), having good chats with a couple of my cabin mates with pretty views of the creek.

Afterward, it was seeing seen. I originally wasn’t planning to go but ended up really enjoying it. The small groups were nice and it felt good to connect and share with a group of people who really cared to be there. It felt really powerful to hear everyone open up and get things off of their chests.
Once the official time was over, most of the seeing seen group headed to the tires by the swing set to talk and snack, then we cut the line at dinner to talk some more at the campfire circle.

After evening meeting, Aubrie facilitated a magical angel walk, which was a sweet way to share and receive many compliments in a short amount of time. Many people got emotional, although for me it felt fairly surface level.

Adding to the warm sweet vibes of angel walk, the kitchen provided us with freshly baked cookies before the campfire. At the campfire circle, the flames created a cozy atmosphere that was added to by live music, stories, and poetry by J and other campers and staff, but I was tired so I left after only a few minutes.

With it still being pretty early I was able to leisurely get ready for bed and take my stuff out to the field where a deer was grazing under the string lights. It was my first field sleep of the session, and the rain was a refreshing end to a good day.
