Beatrice B: Day 4, Lake Day

I woke up to wakeup call at ten, in the form of being sung Here Comes the Sun. I slept next to some of my friends in Frida’s, which is one of camp’s communal sleeping places. We did some giggling, and then got out of our sleeping bags. I carried my sleeping bag, blanket, pillow, and mattress back to my cabin. In my cabin I got dressed and brushed my teeth. Then I went down to breakfast and had some delicious cinnamon rolls and a banana.

Then we had morning meeting, where Brenna asked us for prom theme ideas, and then we had advisee. Will is my advisor. At the beginning of advisee a camper named Leo infiltrated us, and his advisee came to get him back, but he was hiding so his advisee took me instead. I had to remember how much sleep I got as I was taken out the door so that Will would add it to my sleep score. Will keeps track of how much sleep everyone in his advisee gets. In my new advisee, our advisor Nori lead us in a rose bud thorn, and then we played a game.

Here is how the game worked: everyone gets a piece of paper folded into 6 strips. On your paper we write something that could be drawn. We pass our papers to the left, so everyone has a new paper. We draw what was written on our new paper, and then pass it again, folding it so that the next person can only see what was drawn. Then we write a description of the new drawing we see, and pass it again. The game goes on with everyone drawing or writing descriptions that get passed to them, and making sure to only look at the last thing put on the page, until the page is full, and we unfold the paper and look at it.

Campers in a canoe during Lake Day

After advisee I did some dishes, and then went to my cabin to get changed into my swimsuit for Lake Day!! I stopped at the kitchen on my way down to the lake to get a yummy sandwich and some snacks to bring with me. When I got there I sat on the dock with some staffers (Christian and Larkin) to listen to Esmé’s life story for a little while. It was very interesting. I ate my sandwich and watched people play zombie gun canoe something tag in the water as I listened. Then I got into a canoe with 3 other campers to go to a rope swing on the other side of the lake. I swam while I watched lots of people go on the swing. We went back and I gathered my things and got in the shower. The shower wasn’t the coldest I had ever had at camp, but it was still cold.

I went back to my cabin and Pearl was in my sleeping bag. I was confused, which made us laugh, but it turned out she was in both of our sleeping bags. Then I went down to the Cozy Lodge for the art show. I looked at all the art and it was amazing. There were ceramics, crocheted things, knitted things, sketchbooks, drawings, paintings, sewing, collages, digital art, beaded creatures, and various other things.

Rainbow!

After dinner we had evening meeting, and then the film festival which was awesome. I had a film in the festival that I made with my friend and fellow camper Saskia. Then lounge night began. Lounge night is a nighttime workshop block. First I went back to my cabin with Pearl and Esmé and we got ready for bed, and then Esmé went to bed and Pearl and I went to Elijah’s group interview workshop. We brought a quilt, cozyed up, and answered all the questions Elijah had for us. It was very fun. Here are some of the questions: how many people know your name? Do you have a least favorite vegetable? Who is the oldest person you know? Are you friends with your neighbors? What season is your birthday? And many more.

Pearl and I had been planning on going to bed at 11, but we ended up going to bed at midnight. Before going back to the cabin I went around and said goodnight to some people still awake. When I got into my bed Pearl and I whispered for a while longer and then finally drifted off the sleep.
