Julian: Arrival Day (Tamarack Farm, Vermont 2018)

September 20, 2018 (Camper Arrival Day, Vermont Session at Tamarack Farm)

Written by camper Julian

The day I’ve been waiting for for a year has come to an end: the arrival day of my second year of camp. I accidentally showed up an hour early, so I was able to greet everyone as they arrived. There’s no better feeling than seeing your favorite people again after not seeing them for months. There were many new faces as well. I’d say about one third of the kids are new.

After everyone was there and settled in, we had dinner in our Advisee groups. Advisee groups are groups of 10 to 12 campers with one staff member as our advisor that we can go to for help with anything or just to chat. My advisor is Christian and they’re the coolest. Later that night, they lead the camp in a game called Silent Football, which was neither silent nor football.

My second favorite part of the day was probably snack time. The kitchen staff made the best vegan bread ever and served it with almond butter and jam. I ate so much. I stayed up talking to people for a little while but ended up going to bed at 11:30, which is really early by camp standards. All in all, I’m so happy to be here and I can’t wait to see what this session has in store.
